Local area…Places to go and things to do

The Rose & Crown is situated in the charming village of Snettisham, on the edge of the Wash and a short drive from the glorious North Norfolk beaches, perfect for walks, children, sandcastles and swimming, and dog heaven.

Snettisham Beach, just down the road, is the RSPB‘s most important East coast reserve and home to thousands of migrating birds. Through the winter waders and geese flock to Snettisham Beach to feed on the salt flats, and then rise as one as the incoming tide covers their feeding ground, and huge ‘V’ formations of geese fly over The Rose & Crown, morning and evening. Amazing sights, however much or little you know about birds. See RSPB website for the RSPB’s Wild Goose Chase and other events through the year.

All are perfect followed by a delicious, warming R&C breakfast!

The R&C is just a short drive away from the magnificent houses of Houghton, Sandringham and Holkham.  See their websites for their opening hours ( slightly eccentric!).  The grounds at Sandringham are open to the public all year round, great for woodland walks and dogs are welcome.  Similarly the park at Holkham is open all year round, though dogs must be kept on leads.

The Rose & Crown makes a perfect base for dog walkers. We welcome dogs at The R&C. Walkers without dogs are also welcome!

The National Cycle Route number 1 runs through the village and the Peddar’s Way passes close by.

The Rose & Crown is the ideal base from which to explore and enjoy the delights of this wonderful area…
